ABOUT ME AND MY WORK

My name is Thomas Vos, a 34-year-old abstract painter born in Leuven and currently based in Antwerp, Belgium. From a young age, I’ve been captivated by the emotional power of color, finding inspiration in everything from architecture and interior design to photography and the natural world. Whether it’s the warm colors of a sunflower, the turquoise sea meeting golden sands, or the feeling of the golden hour that needs to be captured and enjoyed, these moments of beauty have shaped my artistic vision.

While I initially explored art through lessons at HAAS (Hagelandse Academie voor Beeldende Kunst) and in my grandfather’s studio, I am largely self-taught. My approach to painting has been shaped by years of experimentation, an openness to new techniques, and a curiosity to explore the possibilities of color, texture, and light. This organic process has allowed me to develop a distinctive style, rooted in intuition and continuous growth.

After pursuing a law degree and taking a step back from art during my college years, I rekindled my passion for painting in 2020. What started as a personal hobby soon grew into creating works for friends and family, culminating in exhibitions in Antwerp, Paris, and Liège in 2023. Later that year, two of my pieces were displayed at the European Parliament in Brussels, followed by a solo exhibition in Antwerp South.

Today, my work explores the interplay of color, texture, and light through acrylic paint and mixed media. My focus lies on creating vibrant abstract paintings, often enhanced with touches of gold, to evoke a sense of warmth, joy, and connection. Painting, for me, is not just about the finished piece but the meditative journey of expression—a process that transforms a blank canvas into something alive and full of emotion.

Even though my art is abstract, I aim to invite viewers into their own reflections, allowing them to find personal meaning within the colors, patterns, and forms. To achieve this, I work with diverse materials such as high-flow acrylics, heavy structure gels, pumice, and varnishes, translating the sensations of the world around me onto canvas.

Ultimately, my mission is to bring light and color to people’s lives, creating atmospheres that are not only seen but felt.
